Early risers on Friday were shocked to learn that their local center for literature and learning had been hit by the fury of nature's electricity — no injuries were reported, though, as the building awaited its first visitors of the day. The incident sparked immediate action from restorative crews who worked tirelessly to fix the hole in the wall and other damage. However, the library had to keep its doors closed throughout the Saturday, as workers scrambled to restore order, according to information obtained by KXAN.
The Dripping Springs library's staff has been working round the clock to ensure an expedient return to full operations. While some services remain unavailable, book lovers will still be able to check out materials from a limited collection. In a Sunday Facebook update, the library reassured the public that certain amenities like patron computers and printing services would take a bit longer to become fully functional.
In the face of adversity, Sarah Rose, capital campaign manager for the library, reflected on the event's impact. "I can’t image what the force of the blast has to have been to send stuff that far. To start the summer off this way is pretty discombobulating," Rose said in a statement obtained by KXAN. This setback comes at a time when the library embarks on what is traditionally its peak season, and the staff remains committed to overcoming these challenging circumstances.
