As school doors close for the summer holidays, local parks are gearing up to quickly become the weekday destinations for children across the city. A variety of day camps provided by the Parks and Recreation Department promise to fill the summer break with physical activity, learning, and the opportunity to forge new friendships. With a diverse array of sports camps ranging from soccer to archery, there is something to cater to every young athlete's interest.
Starting August 26, the Soccer Shots Camp will look to harness not only the soccer skills of children aged 4 through 8 but also to significantly improve character and creativity. According to the Parks and Recreation bulletin, the camp plans to include daily themes, crafts, team-building exercises, and literature into the mix. For those who prefer to swing a racket, Tennis Camp is scheduled for various age groups ranging from 4 to 11 years old, ensuring that every young player can find their spot on the court.
Sports Unlimited Camps and Skyhawks Sports Camps offer a more diverse range of activities suitable for ages 5 through 14, encompassing sports such as flag football, lacrosse, badminton, baseball, basketball, pickleball, and more. These camps are designed to deliver fundamental skills of each sport, providing a robust athletic experience. Moreover, the RevSports Sports Extravaganza presents an immersive dive into various sports through games and competitions, available for ages 6 to 13, during two separate August sessions.
Amidst all the sporting activities, the importance of safety is not to be overlooked. Eden Prairie's Safety Camp for ages 7 to 9 will be held on June 25–26, promising to make vital safety lessons an entertaining experience for youngsters. According to the bulletin, learning about water, internet, bike, animal, and fire safety is turned into an interactive and enjoyable process. For youngsters with aims of accuracy, Archery Camps for ages 9 to 14 offer courses on archery basics and skills improvement.
The Eden Prairie Parks and Recreation Department provides these summer programs with an underlying mission: to engage the youth in physical activities, to teach them important life skills, and to encourage social interaction among peers outside of the digital and academic world. All this is aimed at contributing to the wholesome development of the children during their break from the regular school year. Full details and registration information can be found on the Parks and Recreation website.
