
A mundane afternoon on Friars Road took a perilous turn when two vehicles collided, leaving an elderly man with serious injuries. The San Diego Police Department reports that the incident occurred on May 31, involving a 2008 Toyota 4Runner and a 2017 Infinity.
According to the SDPD Watch Commander's Log, the crash happened at approximately 5:14 PM when an 87-year-old attempted a left turn onto Friars Road from Gaines Street, striking the Toyota driven by a 27-year-old male. The impact was severe enough to cause back fractures, facial trauma, and internal bleeding to the octogenarian.
The younger driver sustained lower back pains and a nose injury. Meanwhile, a passenger in the Infinity complained of chest, shoulder, and hip pain. Officer J. Perales, the watch commander, noted that the Traffic Division authorities oversee the investigation to understand the full dynamics of the event.
While the condition of the 87-year-old remains undisclosed, the injuries described in the report underline the seriousness of this traffic altercation. The incident impacted traffic along the busy Morena neighborhood roadway for several hours.
