An escaped inmate from the West Valley Detention Center has been apprehended in the Los Angeles area. Deshaun Stamps, a 29-year-old Riverside resident, was taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department and is to be transferred back under their jurisdiction, according to the SBSD - Headquarters. Stamps had been missing since June 16, when he was noticed absent during an outdoor recreation time at the detention center.

Before being brought into custody last year on attempted murder charges, Stamps had been housed at the West Valley Detention Center since January 30, 2023, as per the SBSD - Headquarters. Descriptions circulating during his brief time at large detailed him as a black male adult, standing at 5’11” with green eyes, and notable tattoos on his head and neck. His attire at the time of his escape was unknown, prompting public caution.

The public had been cautioned not to approach Stamps but rather to report sightings to authorities. Under the Sheriff's instructions, the community was to call 911 with any relevant information or contact the We-Tip Hotline, where they could offer tips anonymously.
