As the nation prepares to mark its independence, Fort Worth city officials are issuing a strong reminder that fireworks should safely be enjoyed at a distance, handled only by professionals. Ahead of the Fourth of July celebrations, the City of Fort Worth, along with local fire and police departments, are underscoring a clear message: fireworks within the city limits are a no-go.
To tightly enforce the local ordinance, the Fort Worth Police Department has vowed to aggressively crack down on the illegal use of fireworks. According to the City of Fort Worth, fireworks are strictly prohibited, with violations carrying a fine of up to $2,000. Enforcement strategies will actively be varied and will depend on factors such as several calls through emergency systems and the availability of officers. Fort Worth Police also plan to utilize surveillance tech and intelligence, such as social media monitoring, to prevent any illegal fireworks activities.
While residents are encouraged to enjoy the city-permitted fireworks displays, they are advised to avoid calling 911 to report illegal fireworks. Instead, the city recommends using the MyFW App or calling a dedicated number at 817-392-4444 to report any unauthorized use of fireworks. The local ordinance is clear, as it prohibits "the possession, manufacture, storage, sale, handling, and use of fireworks".
As the nation's celebration approaches, the Police Department is preparing to work overtime, ensuring extra resources are available in every patrol division. This will help them to quickly respond to illegal fireworks, as well as other emergencies. All calls received through the Fort Worth Police Department will be prioritized for a response, which should bolster the city's capability to manage the anticipated increase in activity during the holiday season.
