According to an announcement made by the City of Fort Worth, this year's Juneteenth program will be broadcast live on June 13, giving contexts of the holiday's history and its ongoing evolution a public airing. To reach a wider audience, the event will also stream live on FWTV and the City’s YouTube channel, and for those who can't tune in live, the session will be available on demand shortly after. It aims to explore the multi-faceted significance of the holiday and to potentially shape the continued narrative around race and freedom in our society.
Sheran Goodspeed Keyton is bringing a new dimension to the event with the theatrical performance entitled "Let Freedom Ring: A Generational Perspective." As described by the City of Fort Worth, the piece will provide an "artistic interpretation of generational perspectives regarding the meaning of freedom and how that has changed for each generation." It's a reflective examination that promises to shed light on lived experiences across age groups and the progress—or lack thereof—that has unfolded over time.
