Yesterday's underground electrical transformer blaze in Frisco has left several high-profile locations, including The Star and Omni Frisco Hotel, in the dark and disrupted business at the Keurig - Dr Pepper headquarters. The incident, which took place in the 3900 block of Legacy Drive, escalated from a grass fire to a state of emergency as flames consumed the energy infrastructure buried beneath, according to the City of Frisco.
With an estimated 2,500 customers losing power around 2 p.m., the team from Frisco Fire Department hurried to the scene, unintentionally stumbling upon the smoldering transformer upon arrival which had ignited the grass fire. Complications from the electrical outage led to two elevator rescues carried out by the fire department personnel, though no injuries have been reported.
Oncor, the electricity provider, was notified and sent crews to address the power outage. The company has been working closely with local authorities to restore electricity to the affected area as quickly and safely as possible. Details on the expected time for power restoration have not been released by the authorities or Oncor as of yet.
As the community waited for the power to flicker back on, elevator systems within affected buildings stood silent, resulting in unexpected traps for some of the occupants. The duty of prising open the stubborn metal doors, tasked to the fire department, embodied the struggle against the unintended consequences of such a sudden electrical failure.
Residents and business owners affected by the outage are encouraged to stay tuned to updates from Oncor and the City of Frisco, as efforts to control and rectify the situation persist. For continuous updates on the power restoration process, check the City of Frisco's official website or contact Oncor directly.
