The tragic consequences of one man's alleged reckless driving culminated in a grand jury indictment, as Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced the charges against Brian Alexander Torres-Perez for the deaths of a young family. Torres-Perez, aged 22, faces three counts of Manslaughter, a Class Two Felony, in connection with a car crash that occurred on December 16, 2022.
According to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, the collision took place when Torres-Perez was making a left-hand turn at Elliott Road and Cole Drive in Gilbert, Arizona, which led to the deaths of Cooper Lamb, his fiancée, and their 11-month-old daughter. Cooper, the 20-year-old son of Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb, and his fiancée both succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, whereas, their infant daughter perished at the scene of the accident.
Investigators identified excessive speed, alcohol, and other drugs as contributing factors in the devastating crash. The case, initially brought to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office by the Gilbert Police Department in February 2023, has since been meticulously reviewed, culminating in the recent charge. "This defendant's reckless disregard for life wiped out an entire family,” County Attorney Rachel Mitchell expressed, as per the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, signaling the gravity of the occurrence and the ensuing quest for justice.
A grand jury warrant was subsequently issued for the arrest of Torres-Perez, who is now detained in the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. His cash bond is set at $150,000.
