As temperatures continue to soar in Grand Prairie, local officials are responding with the opening of cooling centers for residents seeking respite from the oppressive heat. These cool havens are a public service to ensure the welfare of the community amid the sweltering conditions.
Available across the city, the cooling centers offer a place for everyone to get out of the heat, including the particularly vulnerable – our children and the elderly, who may not have access to air-conditioned environments. Grand Prairie has opened several spots, walking into the Public Safety Building Lobby, those seeking relief will find its doors open daily from 7 AM to 7 PM. In contrast, the City Hall Lobby welcomes residents on weekdays from 8 AM to 5 PM but remains closed on weekends, as reported by the City of Grand Prairie, Texas.
Additional facilities include the Main & Betty Warmack Library, which is available Monday to Thursday from 10 AM to 8 PM, Fridays from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Saturdays from 11 AM to 5 PM, shutting its doors on Sundays. The Shotwell Library also opens its doors from Monday to Thursday between 8 AM and 7 PM and on Friday from 8 AM to 6 PM, but visitors should note that it will be closed on Saturday and Sunday.
