In a touching display of solidarity, the "blue family" of fallen Harris County Sgt. Ramon Gutierrez made sure his son didn't feel alone at his high school graduation. Nomar Gutierrez, graduating from Klein Oak High School, was escorted from his home to the ceremony at NRG Stadium by deputies from the Harris County Sheriff's Office, as reported by KHOU. This honor reflected the camaraderie and support of the law enforcement community towards one of their own and his family.

The graduation was a bittersweet event for the Gutierrez family, still coping with the loss of Sgt. Gutierrez who was killed by an alleged drunk driver two years prior. "It’s definitely just an empty, you know, just feeling in here, and it’s been, and it’s been a very hard day for us," Lupita Gutierrez, Nomar's mother, conveyed in a statement obtained by FOX 26 Houston. Meanwhile, Nomar paid tribute to his father by donning his favorite pair of boots during the ceremony, a physical reminder of a man described as community-minded and supportive.

The late Ramon Gutierrez, a 23-year veteran of the Harris County Sheriff's Office, was remembered for his integral role in the vehicular crimes division. His untimely death not only deprived the community of a dedicated servant but also a family of its patriarch. “He was a great community man, nice to everyone and a reason he got such great support from the community,” Nomar told KHOU.

Despite the struggle, the family stands strong, with Nomar launching an online personal training business, Muscles and Mindground, anchored in the disciplines learned from his father. "We did it. I would tell him that Nomar is a strong young man, we miss him horribly, we're here not only for Nomar but for him too; he gave a lot out of himself," Lupita reflected in her interview with FOX 26 Houston. The Gutierrez family faces a tough month ahead with multiple birthdays and the trial concerning Ramon's death set for June 25. Lupita added, "It's going to be a difficult month for the family."
