A man has been arrested and charged following a fatal crash that occurred this past Sunday evening on Almeda Genoa Road. According to a news release from the City of Houston, 32-year-old Victor Hugo De La Paz Rivas is now facing charges of driving while intoxicated with minors present, after his involvement in an accident that left one pedestrian dead.

The crash took place at approximately 9:55 p.m. at the 1100 block of Almeda Genoa Road, where De La Paz Rivas, operating a gray Toyota Tacoma at high speeds, hit a male pedestrian who was in a moving lane of traffic, the Collision investigators at the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sgt. D. Rose and Officer T. Johnson have reported that after the paramedics' arrival, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and while De La Paz Rivas exhibited signs of intoxication and was detained at the site two boys aged four and seven, who were also in the vehicle at the time of the incident, were found to be unharmed.

Currently, De La Paz Rivas is charged in the 178th State District Court, with the gravity of the charges being compounded by the presence of a child under 15 years of age in the vehicle during the time of the incident. The identity of the deceased is still under verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The suspect's booking photo has been released to the public.
