A somber morning on a Houston highway led to a tragic outcome when a multiple-vehicle collision claimed the life of one driver, authorities said. The incident occurred this Monday at around 9:25 a.m. at 10900 South Sam Houston Parkway West service road, as per the Houston Police.
According the City of Houston official news release, a silver Hyundai Accent failed to decelerate at a red light, crashing into the rear of a Honda Accord. The domino effect from the initial crash sent the Honda across the intersection, colliding with a green Toyota Camry, which was subsequently hit by a white Mack van.
The female driver of the Hyundai was declared dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics. Meanwhile, the Houston police officers from the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Alejandro and Officer A. Hart are undertaking a detailed investigation to unravel the specifics of this fatal event.
Moreover, the male driver of the Accord along with his three passengers – with one female, and two juveniles- were rushed to an area hospital and are reported to be in stable conditions. The Camry's driver also survived, receiving medical attention at a local hospital in a stable state. The van's driver was unscathed in the chaos and cooperated with the law enforcement at the scene.
Investigators continue to delve into the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision, while the identification of the deceased driver is still pending, awaiting verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The area was cordoned off as the police specialist teams did their work, and motorists were advised to take alternative routes to avoid delays.
