A suspect in multiple aggravated robberies across Houston has been arrested, and troubling links have emerged suggesting his alleged criminal spree may be connected to a recent tragic incident in Missouri City that resulted in the deaths of a mother and her son. The suspect, whose name has not yet been made public, was apprehended by the Houston Police Department.
According to Click2Houston, this individual is believed to have been involved in a police chase that ended in disaster when a Missouri City police officer, rushing to respond to an armed robbery, collided with the vehicle of Angela Stewart, 53, and her son Mason Stewart, 16, both of whom died at the scene. This heart-wrenching crash occurred on Thursday, June 20th, on what was the 16-year-old's birthday.
The balloon-adorned site of the fatal accident now marks a poignant reminder of the lives cut short. Investigations into the suspect's activities reveal a series of armed robberies, including two ATM thefts in Houston earlier that day on South Post Oak Road. A Flock camera system played a crucial role in tracking the suspect, who was involved in what is believed to be an additional robbery attempt the following day, according to Click2Houston.
Adding to the layers of grief and complexity, Angela Stewart served as a counselor for Houston ISD, her untimely death was announced in a letter penned by Assistant Principal Tonya Chevalier, obtained by ABC13, indicating that she passed away unexpectedly, assuring that support would be made available for students, parents, and school personnel grappling with the loss. The Missouri City police officer involved in the crash has since been put on administrative leave, pending a DPS investigation, and details surrounding the crash are still being scrutinized, including the presence of a third party found in the police cruiser after the incident.
The case continues to evolve as officials seek to confirm the suspect's identity and his involvement in all four robberies.
