Esteban Arriaza, a 31-year-old man, has been arrested by the Jefferson Police Department on charges of attempting to entice a child for indecent purposes. According to a report by FOX 5 Atlanta, Arriaza began chatting on a social media platform with someone he believed to be an underage girl but who was, in fact, an undercover officer.
The conversations, which spanned several days, started innocently enough with the exchange of nonexplicit photos and phone numbers. Moving swiftly into dangerous territory, messages became explicitly sexual with Arriaza expressing his intent to perform oral sex and to take the "girl's" virginity. The details of the exchanged messages were relayed in a press release by Jefferson Police officials. The meeting supposed for a chance of innocence was instead laden with graver implications.
Arriaza was apprehended on Monday after arriving in Jefferson with the intention of meeting the undercover officer. As reported by AccessWDUN, a tactical traffic stop led to his arrest without incident. While Arriaza believed he was about to meet an underage girl, Jefferson Police were preparing to enact justice.
He has been charged with enticing a child for indecent purposes and criminal attempt, with the potential for additional charges as the investigation persists. Furthermore, Sgt. Kyle Anderson, who is also a team member with the GBI's Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, led the operation, posing as the underage girl involved. The trap set by officers not only caught a man in the permeable web but underscored the continued vigilance against sexual predation in the digital forests we navigate daily.
