
The City of Bloomington has officially welcomed Kathy Hedin into her new role as assistant city manager - external services starting July 22. With over two decades spent within the realm of local government, Hedin arms herself with vast experience in the fields of human services, administration, and public health. According to a recent announcement by the city, she is recognized for her commendable efforts toward promoting equity, inclusion, and engagement across various levels of leadership, which facilitates the delivery of pivotal services to the community.
Prior to taking the helm at Bloomington, Hedin's journey included significant roles in Ramsey County, where she served as the public health director and social services director. Her latest stint before her current appointment was as the deputy county manager, where, she was tasked with the oversight of departments that spanned across public health, social services, community corrections, financial assistance services, and even veterans services.
Her academic pedigree includes a Bachelor of Science in Community/Public Health from Minnesota State University, Mankato as well as a Master of Science in Social and Community Work from Capella University. Hedin has also polished her leadership capabilities by completing the Public Service Leadership Executive Course at Harvard Kennedy School.
As part of her new position in Bloomington, Hedin is expected to utilize her seasoned background to foster collaboration with various stakeholders, including elected officials and partners to ensure that the provided services are not only of a high caliber but also responsive to the needs of the populace. Her leadership is forecasted to be a driving force in the continual pursuit of a government that doesn't just serve, but uplifts and understands the diverse fabric it represents.
