KIPP Texas Joins San Antonio Food Bank to Provide Summer Meals and Support to FamiliesSource: Google Street View

In an effort to ensure that families continue to have access to food during the summer months, KIPP Texas Public Schools have joined forces with the San Antonio Food Bank. Together, they are orchestrating a series of food distribution events to support the needs of the community, as schools take a break and regular meal programs are paused. KIPP Un Mundo Primary has become a hub where these efforts are concentrated, offering solace and sustenance to those in need.

At a recent food distribution event, KIPP Un Mundo Primary's principal, Shannon Tolliver, highlighted the ongoing commitment to aiding families during the school's downtime. "Now that school is out, we don’t want our families to go without,” Tolliver told FOX San Antonio. “This partnership means our families are to eat this week, this weekend, next week and we're going to continue to do partnerships throughout the summer, so we know that when our kids are not in school, they're still getting the same things we provide within our walls." She emphasized that these services are available to everyone in the community, not just those affiliated with the school.

Moreover, for those who find themselves struggling to put food on the table, they have been encouraged by Tolliver to reach out to her directly. KIPP Un Mundo Primary is extending its resources beyond food, offering educational and counseling services as well. Tolliver assures that the support will continue with numerous distributions planned over the summer.

With food security being a pressing concern, KIPP Texas and the San Antonio Food Bank are not slowing down. A community food distribution event is slated for this Saturday at KIPP Un Mundo, aiming to hand out free produce bags to participants. According to KSAT, the event will operate on a first-come, first-served basis and will welcome all community members between 9 a.m. and noon at 4343 West Commerce St. Interested residents can sign up via a provided link to participate in the food giveaway, ensuring their families have fresh produce as the harsh summer months press on.
