Knoxville Police Arrest Suspect on Multiple Charges After Fatal Hit-and-Run on Loves Creek RoadSource: Knoxville Police Department

The Knoxville community is contending with the tragic aftermath of a deadly hit-and-run that occurred on Loves Creek Road late Monday evening. Knoxville Police Department (KPD) officers responded to the scene after receiving calls regarding a pedestrian lying in the grass off the roadway. According to WATE, the victim, whose identity has not been released pending notification of their next of kin, was pronounced dead by first responders from the Knoxville Fire Department and AMR ambulance service.

In the course of the investigation, KPD officers identified and apprehended Eliser Correra Romero, the driver of a white Ford van with "significant front-end damage" found near the scene on Loves Creek Road close to Rutledge Pike. KPD reported a brief foot chase ensued after Romero initially fled the approach of the officers, Romero now faces multiple charges including vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, as well as driving without a license, and no insurance.

Witness accounts provided to the police highlight that the victim had been observed walking along Loves Creek Road earlier in the evening. It was the same witnesses who later called 911 upon spotting debris on the road and the grim scene, according to WBIR.

Romero has been detained at the Knox County Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility, with authorities continuing their probe into the event that has unavoidably cast a shadow on the neighborhood. "Witnesses reported seeing the victim walking along Loves Creek Road early in the evening," said KPD, as per WBIR. As the Knoxville community grapples with this loss, the incident serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the consequences of reckless actions behind the wheel.
