Knoxville is gearing up for a spectacular celebration of Independence Day with its annual Festival on the 4th event, which promises an array of family-friendly activities and entertainment. The festival is set to take place on Thursday, July 4, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at World's Fair Park, including a lineup of performances across multiple stages and an impressive fireworks display to wrap up the festivities.
The event, as advertised, is free to all, welcoming residents and visitors alike to partake in leisure activities such as water wars, axe-throwing, and paddle boating. Alongside the recreational offerings, a selection of food vendors will be available to satisfy the crowd's appetites, dispersed across both lawns of the park. Entertainment set to begin at 5 p.m. will run throughout the evening, ending with fireworks that will ignite the sky above Henley Bridge at approximately 9:45 p.m., according to the City of Knoxville.
Attendees of the festival can catch sets by Knox Vegas DJs and Bary Jolly, who is slated to perform Jimmy Buffet's greatest hits; these acts will feature on the Festival Lawn stage. Concurrently, the Mike Snodgrass Band will deliver their sound on the Performance Lawn stage. Highlighting the evening, the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra is scheduled to perform its 40th Annual Free Lawson Family Foundation Independence Day Concert in the Tennessee Amphitheater at 8 p.m. For those preferring a visual experience, a video of the KSO's concert will be broadcast on large screens located on the fairgrounds.
Ensuring convenience for the locals, the city has arranged for free parking at numerous locations, including World's Fair and Blackstock parking lots, as well as various garaged spaces. Additionally, the Fort Kid lot will offer additional ADA parking. For those planning to stay hydrated through the event, water stations near the Performance Lawn entrance, and by the Knoxville Utilities Board on the Festival Lawn will be available for refilling personal water bottles. The city has, however, set some ground rules: no alcohol, pets, or personal tents/canopies will be allowed on site, and the event will persist rain or shine.
The Festival on the 4th is made possible with support from numerous local sponsors such as Pilot Company, Visit Knoxville, Home Federal Bank, and media partners including WBIR Channel 10 and various local radio stations. For individuals seeking more information about the event, the City's Office of Special Events invites inquiries via their website or by phone at 865-215-4248. Revelers and families looking to partake in this patriotic celebration will find it both accessible and filled with opportunities to make new memories while honoring the spirit of American freedom.
