A boil water advisory has been issued for part of Livonia after a mechanical malfunction caused low water pressure issues on Wednesday morning. According to The Detroit News, the area impacted spans from Seven Mile south to Joy Road and Wayne Road east to Inkster.
For residents within these boundaries, city officials, as per The Detroit News, are insisting that "Water cannot be consumed," and must be boiled for at least one minute before use. The precautionary measures impact activities including drinking, making ice, dishwashing, brushing teeth, and food preparation. However, the advisory does not restrict showering or laundry, as noted by ClickOnDetroit.
The drop in water pressure, which lasted around half an hour until approximately 9:10 a.m., is attributed to a faulty pressure-reducing valve, a detail confirmed by officials. WWJ Newsradio reported that a contractor has been engaged to assess and repair the malfunctioning component. There are no indications that the problem is linked to the Great Lakes Water Authority's system.
While some buildings, including the Livonia police department, completely lost water, others experienced a mere decrease in pressure. Notifications regarding the restoration of safe water conditions will be disseminated through various channels such as local TV networks, the city's website, and social media platforms, as per officials. Public facilities like the Kirksey Recreation Center, the Senior Center, and Livonia libraries are still operational, amidst the ongoing inconvenience.
