Skilla Baby is bringing his biggest tour yet back to where it all started. The Detroit rapper will close out his 18-date headlining “Price of Fame” tour with a hometown concert at the Fillmore Detroit on November 22, with tickets going on sale at noon today.
The tour swing, announced by promoters, launches October 21 in New York and runs through stops including Atlanta, New Orleans, Dallas and Los Angeles before wrapping in Detroit, according to The Detroit News. The run supports Skilla Baby's new album “The Price of Fame,” released last Friday, which features guest appearances from Nas, Chris Brown and Bryson Tiller, the newspaper reports.
A Historic Woodward Avenue Stage
The Fillmore Detroit, where the tour will take its final bow, has stood on Woodward Avenue since 1925, when it opened as the State Theatre. Designed by architect C. Howard Crane in Renaissance Revival style, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and now operates under Live Nation with a capacity between roughly 2,200 and 2,900 patrons, according to the Detroit Historical Society.
For Skilla Baby, born Trevon Gardner, the venue represents a full-circle moment in a hometown that shaped his rise. Per Wikipedia, Gardner took his stage name from a childhood basketball nickname and his mentor Sada Baby after turning his focus to music at 15, following his father's death; he worked jobs at McDonald's and Walmart to self-fund studio time before breaking into Detroit's local rap scene.
From Local Mixtapes to a Major-Label Run
Skilla Baby signed with Geffen Records in 2022 to release his major-label debut EP “We Eat the Most,” and in 2023 he paired with fellow Detroit rapper Tee Grizzley for the collaborative mixtape “Controversy,” according to AllMusic. His April 2024 mixtape “The Coldest” debuted at No. 175 on the Billboard 200 and racked up more than 100 million streams ahead of a July 2024 deluxe re-release featuring guest spots from DaBaby, Flo Milli and Polo G, as reported by Hashtag Magazine. That same month, XXL Magazine named him the “People's Champ” of its 2024 Freshman Class, a title decided entirely by fan voting.
He has already logged experience on major stages. Months later, in May 2024, he co-headlined the national “Vultures Eat The Most Tour” with Louisiana rapper Rob49, a run that kicked off in Orlando, per Hashtag Magazine. He also took the BETX main stage at the 2024 BET Experience Fan Fest at the Los Angeles Convention Center, according to The Detroit News.
Civic Ties and a Violent Setback
Skilla Baby's Detroit roots extend beyond music. In February 2024, he donated $50,000 to partner with Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield on a gun buyback and expungement fair at The Icon that took more than 700 firearms off city streets while offering record expungement and job opportunities, according to BridgeDetroit.
That community standing was tested last year when Skilla Baby survived a targeted drive-by shooting near 8 Mile Road on May 22, 2025, sustaining two head grazes and a hand injury before returning to perform live just two days later, as reported by Sportskeeda. Law enforcement identified a suspect vehicle, and an arrest on felony weapons charges followed in June 2025. In a July 2024 podcast appearance, he sparked debate by saying that while Eminem holds commercial sales records, current Detroit street culture doesn't view him as the city's active top rapper, according to Complex. He noted that Detroit's rap scene cycles through local favorites like Tee Grizzley, Sada Baby and Babyface Ray rather than rallying behind a single legacy star.
Now, with “The Price of Fame” out and an 18-date tour set to launch in New York before crossing Atlanta, New Orleans, Dallas and Los Angeles, Skilla Baby is bringing the run back to Woodward Avenue for its final night. Tickets for the Fillmore Detroit show went on sale at noon Friday.
