A suspect has been arrested in relation to the shooting incident in which Detroit rapper Skilla Baby — real name Trevon Gardner — sustained injuries. The incident took place near Eight Mile and Beech Daly Road on May 22 at approximately 7 p.m., where multiple gunshots were fired at an SUV, resulting in Gardner crashing the vehicle with three gunshot wounds, as reported by ClickOnDetroit.
Following an investigation aided by Detroit Police Department, the Western Wayne Special Operations Team, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, a suspect vehicle was identified, leading to the arrest, as detailed by CBS Detroit. The vehicle's registered owner was apprehended by Detroit police on Wednesday. While at the suspect’s home, a search warrant was executed, and during which, police discovered a firearm.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office is currently reviewing the case for possible felony weapons charges against the suspect, as confirmed by Redford Township Police. This may unfold into a larger investigation as it remains to be seen if additional charges will be pursued.
While the suspect is currently behind bars, the exact nature of their involvement remains under scrutiny. It seems that the gunfire erupted from a dark-colored SUV, that Skilla Baby was driving when he was hit, explaining how the rapper was alone in the car, according to a source interviewed by ClickOnDetroit.
As per FOX 2 Detroit, Gardner sustained two grazes to the head and a gunshot wound to the hand but is expected to make a full recovery. The circumstances suggest a targeted attack, though confirmation on this suspicion is pending.
Authorities continue to probe the case and urge anyone with information to contribute. Redford Township Police have provided Detective Ed French's direct line at 313-387-2579, or alternatively, tips can be given anonymously to MI Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAKUP, as noted by CBS Detroit.
