Early Saturday morning, Phoenix Police Department responded to a fatal incident, marking another entry in the city's ledger of violent encounters. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, police officials disclosed that a man was arrested in connection with a stabbing that resulted in another man's death.
Authorities arrived at the scene near 27th Avenue and Indian School Road after receiving a distress call around 12:35 a.m. There, they discovered a man with at least one stab wound. Despite the swift response, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. As of now, the police have not positively identified the victim.
The suspect, 37-year-old Robert Alan Downs, was taken into custody shortly after without incident. In a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix, officials mentioned, "Downs provided a self-defense claim which did not match evidence found on scene. He was ultimately booked into jail for murder." This narrative of self-defense was allegedly incongruent with the evidence assembled by investigators on site.
Simultaneous reporting from 12News added that multiple witnesses had seen the events unfold, and all pointed to a male suspect, who is now identified as Downs. The stabbing probe has piqued the interest of locals and amplified ongoing concerns regarding public safety. Police affirmed that their investigation will press on through the day, and they will update the public as more details become available.
