At around 2:15 p.m., during what appeared to have started as a verbal altercation, Brooks is reported to have shot Farris in a courtyard on 25th Avenue North. It is understood that Farris was quickly transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Brooks, on the other hand, chose to surrender himself to the police at the scene, where his firearm was also recovered. During the interrogation, Brooks admitted to have deliberately shot Farris amidst their heated argument.

 First responders and Vanderbilt University Medical Center's staff acted swiftly in response to the emergency, but despite their efforts, Farris's life could not be saved. The investigation continues as officials seek to gather more details about the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. Brooks awaits his day in court, where he will have to face the consequences of his actions.
