A roaring blaze tore through a Northwest Side home resulting in a roof collapse and a total property loss, officials confirmed Monday.
The San Antonio Fire Department faced intense flames upon arrival at the home located off Raritan Street and Bianca Street around 10 a.m. "The fire was actually through the roof and it was heavy enough where we determined it would not be safe to enter," SAFD spokesman Woody Woodward said, in a statement obtained by FOX San Antonio. Crews resorted to defensive maneuvers, fighting the inferno from the outside to prevent it from spreading to adjacent buildings.
Though the roof caved in, firefighters successfully kept the blaze contained within the original site, sparing nearby homes from the fire's reach. While the house was rendered a complete ruin, no injuries were reported according to the fire officials.
Neighboring residents informed the firefighters that the occupants are often away for extended periods, potentially averting any casualties. SAFD crews stumbling upon the vast accumulation of materials inside described the scene as one might in a hoarder house. This clutter, combined with the safety risks from the compromised structure, limited firefighters' ability to venture inside, as reported by KENS 5.
No further details have emerged on the cause of the fire, which remains under investigation by local authorities.
