To curb gun violence and accidents, the Mesquite Police Department has announced a Gun Buyback Event, providing a chance for residents to turn in unwanted firearms with no questions asked. Scheduled for June 22nd, the department emphasizes the importance of community safety and sees the initiative as a step towards reducing the potential for violent offenses and inadvertent tragedies.
The event, publicized through the Mesquite Police Department Facebook page, promises anonymity for those handing in guns and offers incentives in the form of gift cards. "Every firearm turned in, is one less firearm that can be used in a violent offense or accidental incident," as the official post from the Mesquite Police outlines.
The gun buyback will be hosted at the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) from 8 am to 11 am, rain or shine. It's important to note that the event is strictly a drive-up occasion; participants are required to stay in their carriages, with firearms preferably unloaded and placed in their vehicle's trunk. This measure ensures a safer environment for everyone involved.
Directions and guidance during the event will be provided by staff, ensuring a streamlined process while maintaining the safety of all attendees. Though boxed ammo is permissible, individuals are advised not to bring explosives as they will not be accepted. With Mesquite Police taking proactive measures, the community inches towards a goal of peace and security, one firearm at a time.
