As the nation gears up to observe Juneteenth National Independence Day, Miami-Dade has announced a lineup of events and closures in honor of this historical moment. According to a news release on the official Miami-Dade County government website, county offices and the Miami‑Dade Libraries will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, following the declaration of Juneteenth as a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

In terms of a services, while the libraries and county offices take their pause, Solid Waste Management will continue its curbside garbage or trash collection as scheduled. Transportation services won't miss a beat either, with Transit operating on a normal schedule. However, the Regulatory & Economic Resources offices, including the Permitting and Inspection Center (The PIC) will not operate on June 19, as per Miami-Dade County.

The Miami Juneteenth Music Festival ’24 is set to be a highlight of the celebration, taking place from June 18-19 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Griffing Center, located at 12220 Griffing Blvd., North Miami. Culture seekers can also delve into 'The Juneteenth Experience' at the Colony Theatre on the same dates starting at 7 p.m., located at 1040 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach.

On the actual day of Juneteenth, the City of Miami Beach presents a 'Juneteenth Day of Freedom' event scheduled for June 19, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 1100 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach. For those looking to extend the festivities, a Juneteenth Beach Bash will take place on Saturday, June 22, at Virginia Key Beach Park, from noon to 4 p.m., inviting residents and visitors alike to commemorate the day with a festive atmosphere by the water.
