Minneapolis residents can expect a sunny start today, with a high peaking around 83 degrees, as reported by the National Weather Service. A light north wind at about 5 mph will accompany the warm temperatures, making for a pleasant atmosphere in the city. However, as the day progresses into the evening, Minneapolitans should prepare for a shift in weather.
As night falls, the sky will begin to display partly cloudy conditions, with temperatures dropping to a comfortable 64 degrees. The southeast wind will maintain a gentle pace, also at around 5 mph. Yet, the serenity of the evening is forecasted to be the calm before the storm, for by Saturday, showers are likely to develop. The possibility of thunderstorms growing after 4 p.m. cannot be overlooked, bringing with them an 80% chance of precipitation and rainfall potentially accumulating between a quarter and a half of an inch.
According to the National Weather Service, Saturday night's weather will intensify with showers and possible thunderstorms continuing before 1 a.m., then a likelihood of storms after 1 a.m. Some of these storms may produce heavy rainfall, so residents should be mindful of potential flooding in prone areas. With continuous southeast winds of 10 to 15 mph, and gusts that could reach 25 mph, the chance of precipitation will hold steady at 100%, with new rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches a possibility.
Sunday's outlook, however, provides a brief respite with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., giving way to mostly sunny skies and a high nearing 92 degrees. South winds are expected to pick up slightly, ranging from 10 to 15 mph. As for Sunday night, the cycle of precipitation returns. Showers and thunderstorms are probable, mainly between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., then potentially continuing after 4 a.m., despite the partly cloudy conditions and lows around 70 degrees.
Looking into the early week, Minneapolis will see a mixed bag of weather conditions. Monday and Tuesday will toggle between chances of showers and sun, with highs in the mid-80s to high-80s, respectively. As Juneteenth approaches, there stands a 40 percent chance of rain with partly sunny areas and a high of 78. The changeable weather continues throughout the week as residents should prepare for several evenings of possible showers and thunderstorms. Overall, the upcoming days will require Minneapolitans to stay alert to weather forecasts and prepare for a wide range of conditions.
