An unfortunate incident on the Veterans Expressway has resulted in the death of a motorcyclist on Tuesday afternoon. According to the WFLA, the crash involved a 65-year-old man from Trinity who was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 26-year-old man from Port Richey driving a Ford F-150 with a trailer. It was reported that the motorcyclist was in the express entrance lane and attempted to merge into the inside lane when the vehicles collided.
The Florida Highway Patrol, which is investigating the crash, stated that the motorcyclist changed lanes in front of the pickup truck, resulting in the latter hitting the motorcycle and causing it to overturn. WTSP detailed that despite the pickup truck driver's "evasive maneuvers," a collision was not avoided. This incident led to significant traffic delays, backing up to Tampa International Airport at one point.
The aftermath of the accident was severe enough to necessitate closure of all northbound lanes on the expressway for several hours. Traffic disruption extended to before Exit 4: Hillsborough Avenue – State Road 580, as mentioned by WTSP. The motorcyclist was urgently taken to a local hospital as a trauma alert but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
The identity of the deceased motorcyclist has not been released awaiting next of kin notification. The driver of the pickup truck involved in the accident was reported to have not sustained injuries. As part of the ongoing investigation, details around the cause of the crash and factors contributing to an event are still being looked into, as noted by Pasco News Online. Authorities are likely to release more information once the investigation concludes.
