
A somber investigation is underway by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) after a pedestrian was fatally struck in a traffic accident in Northwest Washington. According to MPD's statement, the incident occurred on the evening of June 19, 2024, when a Toyota, navigating south on 6th Street NW, collided with the 67-year-old pedestrian during a turn onto New York Avenue.
The incident unfolded at 9:50 p.m. while the pedestrian, later identified as Fuyao Wang of Northwest, legally traversed the east crosswalk with a signal in his favor; simultaneously, the vehicle, under a directive of a green light, executed a left-hand turn resulting in this tragic convergence, as the victim was subsequently knocked to the pavement. Despite swift transportation to a local hospital, Wang’s injuries proved insurmountable, and he succumbed to them hours later, the loss of life marking the sad conclusion of what began as simply an evening stroll.
The driver involved in this heart-rending event remained at the scene and has been cooperating with law enforcement.
