A young man was killed and another remains in critical condition following a shooting on Monday in West Philadelphia. CBS News Philadelphia reports that Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore confirmed the incident occurred near South 60th Street and Market Street. Officers, who were stationed nearby heard gunshots just after 11 a.m. and discovered the victims, ages 21 and 19, shot multiple times.
The victims were transported to Penn Presbyterian Hospital,, where the 19-year-old was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. The 21-year-old victim is reportedly in critical condition. "Video from the area captured the two victims crossing the street when two unknown men, both in gray hooded sweatshirts and dark-colored pants, came running up from behind and fired multiple shots," Vanore mentioned in his briefing, as detailed by the news outlet.
In a separate incident, a 17-year-old girl was fatally shot at a community center in Delaware. The young woman was initially taken to the Ellendale Fire Company before being moved to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. According to NBC Philadelphia, a 19-year-old man was also injured in the shooting, sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg. His injuries are described as non-life-threatening.
Meanwhile, authorities have yet to release the names of the victims or a motive for the West Philadelphia shooting, and no arrests have been made, 6abc.com reports.
