Tragedy struck a quiet township road when a single-car crash near Webster claimed a life and left several injured, according to local authorities. The incident occurred at the 3000 block of 30th Street W in Webster Township on the first day of June, shortly after eight in the evening.
Emergency responders found themselves sifting through the wreckage to provide aid, and during their efforts, it became clear that the accident had taken a grave turn. According to an official statement from the Rice County Sheriff's Office, passenger Nathan John Thomas, 30, from Dundas, could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, a 33-year-old woman thought to have been driving is now fighting for her life in Hennepin County Medical Center after she was airlifted from the crash site.
The grim tally of casualties included two children, boys aged 21 months and 2 months, who were also retrieved from the vehicle and are now receiving urgent medical care at the same hospital. In a night marked by flashing lights and wailing sirens, the community was reminded of the fragile thread upon which life hangs.
While first responders worked to steadfastly rescue those affected, the cause of the accident remains a puzzle that law enforcement is desperately trying to solve. Rice County Sheriff Jesse Thomas underscored the significance of collaboration in the face of this adversity, stating, "The collaborative effort underscores the dedication of our local agencies to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. We are grateful for the swift response and assistance provided by all involved. Three lives were saved with the efforts of all involved."
Inquiries are ongoing and the Rice County Sheriff's Office, with the Scott County Sheriff's Office, Elko/New Market Police Department, Elko/New Market Fire Department, Lonsdale Fire Department, and Northfield EMS all participating, continues to piece together the events that led to the fatal incident. A community, now in mourning, looks for answers.
