In a push to bolster firefighting efforts across Oregon, the State Fire Marshal's Office has commenced the rollout of new water tenders to fire services in the region. As reported yesterday, the initial delivery of these vehicles, aimed at amplifying the state’s capacity to battle the upsurge of wildfire incidents, saw three fire districts receiving the first batch of equipment.

The Amity Fire District, Winston-Dillard Fire District, and Cloverdale Rural Fire Protection District were the first beneficiaries, with the Fire Marshal confirming that these tenders are merely the opening act in a series that will ultimately see 30 sprinkled throughout Oregon. According to a publication by the Oregon State Fire Marshal, the state's investment has amounted to 76 fire apparatus, which includes not just the 30 water tenders but also 26 Type 3 engines and 20 Type 6 engines. As evidence of the plan's propulsion forward, eight of said Type 3 engines have found their homes across various districts, with the promise of more to be delivered as summer waxes.

The proactive measures, funded by 2021’s Senate Bill 762, aim to arm local fire agencies with the latest in fire-combatting hardware. "We are thrilled to see the first of these new water tenders delivered to our fire districts," said Oregon State Fire Marshal Mariana Ruiz-Temple, per the Oregon State Fire Marshal's Office, conveying the energy behind the move to ramp up defense against the rubbery tendrils of wildfires that threaten the state's peace and possessions. Her statement emphasized the program's objective to modernize equipment and boost effectiveness within Oregon's firefighting ranks.

Woven into the state's stratagem is the Response Ready Oregon initiative, stemming from the OSFM. It's a scheme designed to beef up capacity and infuse contemporary tactics into the wildfire response strategies within the Oregon Fire Mutual Aid System (OFMAS). With a clear-cut mission, Response Ready Oregon sets its sights on keeping fires small and at bay, a strategy that ultimately aims to reduce the physical and fiscal damage these disasters can unleash.
