Residents of Argyle found themselves in the dark after a power outage struck a portion of the town, causing traffic signals to go out and leaving more than 1,000 customers without electricity. The blackout, which occurred on June 3rd at approximately 2:17 pm, specifically affected the intersections at 377/Harpole and 377/Crawford Road. Denton County Emergency Services District #1 advised motorists via a Facebook post to "treat these intersections as four-way stops and proceed with caution."
In the absence of functioning traffic lights, the risk of traffic incidents increases which was a concern for the local authorities and they urged drivers to be vigilant and practice patience as the traffic conditions were less than ideal; while Oncor, the electricity provider, reported awareness of the situation yet was unable to give an estimated time for when power would be restored updates, they said, would be shared as they became available.
A spokesperson for Oncor acknowledged the inconvenience faced by its customers and stated that the company's technicians were working to identify and rectify the issue as quickly as possible power restoration is a top priority, but safety measures and protocols must be followed to ensure the well-being of both the public and the repair crews. The specific cause of the outage was not immediately disclosed.
The unexpected power outage serves as a reminder of the fragility of our everyday conveniences, and the importance of being prepared for such emergencies; residents are advised to keep electronic devices charged, to have alternative lighting sources available, and to remain informed through local news outlets or by checking updates online, where they can get the most current information regarding outages and expected restoration times. Until the lights come back on, Argyle citizens must navigate this disruption, armed with caution and the collective hope that normalcy will soon return.
