The Philadelphia Police Department East Detective Division is actively seeking public assistance to identify a male suspect accused of committing multiple armed robberies in local businesses. According to recent information released, the unidentified man targeted establishments in the 24th and 26th Districts.
One incident, which took place on May 24, involved the suspect entering a restaurant on the 4XX block of W. Girard Ave. A 39-year-old female employee reported that the assailant, who had leaped over the counter while brandishing a firearm and demanding money, racked the gun and pointed it at her. The suspect fled the scene on foot before law enforcement officers arrived, ultimately leaving empty-handed.
Just five days later, on May 29, the same individual is believed to have struck again. This time, the armed robbery occurred at a business located on the 27XX block of E. Clearfield Street. As shared by the Philadelphia Police, the perpetrator used an online order to distract an employee before revealing a firearm. He then herded all three store workers and two customers to the back of the store after taking their phones and approximately $1000 in currency.
In the midst of the robbery, a quick-thinking customer managed a daring escape, running from the store and calling for help. The suspect, after a brief altercation, fled the premises. The police later discovered an employee's cell phone, which the robber had discarded near the corner of Westmoreland and Webb St. No injuries were reported during these dangerous encounters.
The authorities have released a video of the suspect and are encouraging anyone with knowledge pertaining to these crimes to step forward. The Philadelphia Police Department remains committed to apprehending the suspect to prevent future incidents and encourage local community members to assist in their efforts to ensure the safety of their neighborhood. A heightened sense of awareness among residents and business owners is critical at this time.
