As residents of Phoenix prepare for another sweltering week, the National Weather Service provides a glimpse into the coming days with temperatures soaring to the heights of 111 degrees. An isolated drizzle might grace the city today between noon and 3pm under partly sunny skies, with the mercury hitting a high near 109 degrees, before the winds shift from east northeast to west southwest in the afternoon. This brief respite from the dryness does little to counteract the inherent dry heat that Phoenix is known for.
Tonight, those isolated sprinkles could make a comeback between 8pm and midnight. The skies are expected to remain partly cloudy as temperatures descend to a low around 82 degrees, offering a mild break from the day's heat. The wind, initially from the west northwest at 5 to 10 mph, is slated to calm as it shifts south after midnight. Similar conditions continue into Friday, with sunny skies forecast and a high peering at 107 degrees.
As the weekend takes hold, the thermometer is poised to climb even higher. Saturday is forecast as sunny and hot, tipping the scales at around 111 degrees — a high that positions the day to be one of the warmest in the extended forecast. Come evening, the skies should remain clear with a low hovering around 83 degrees. A predictable pattern of light winds becoming west at 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon is expected to play out once again.
The outlook for Sunday through Juneteenth maintains this trend of relentless sun, with temperatures consistently topping over 100 degrees. Sunday's conditions mirror those of previous days with sunny skies and a peak near 109 degrees, while winds could gust as high as 20 mph. As the community observes Juneteenth, the sun continues its unyielding watch with a forecast high around 104 degrees, complete with east winds in the morning shifting to west in the afternoon," according to the National Weather Service.
