Portland Public Schools have announced the appointment of Dr. Kimberlee Armstrong as its new superintendent, concluding a six-month search for a successor to the former superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero. According to KGW, the district confirmed Armstrong's selection on Tuesday afternoon.
Dr. Armstrong, who holds a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Washington, has a comprehensive history in educational leadership. "Dr. Armstrong is just what PPS needs in this time of opportunity and challenge," PPS Board Chair Gary Hollands expressed in a statement obtained by KPTV. Her previous experiences include serving as the deputy superintendent for Evergreen Public Schools in Vancouver and the chief academic officer at PPS.
Her selection places her at the forefront of addressing education within a community she is deeply familiar with, having authored “It is an incredible honor to be selected as the next Superintendent of Portland Public Schools. My commitment is unwavering: I will choose Portland every day in every way, dedicating myself fully to the success and well-being of our students, staff, and community. Together, we rise, improving the path toward excellence, equity, and innovation in education,” Dr. Armstrong told KPTV.
Armstrong's appointment is poised to steer PPS towards new heights in educational excellence and innovation. Her career spans over 25 years in public education, offering a layered insight into the Portland community's educational ecosystem. The school board is expected to formally approve her contract Wednesday morning, as reported by KOIN, making official what seems to be a well-received decision among the board and community members alike.
