A brush fire that erupted in East County and threatened nearby homes was effectively quelled by firefighting crews on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred on the 9000 block of Ivanho Street near Jamacha Blvd in Spring Valley, as per aerial footage captured by SkyFOX/KUSI In the Sky. FOX 5/KUSI reported that smoke was first reported at 1:30 p.m., and the San Miguel Fire Department crews were deployed to tackle the fire adjacent to residences, with support from helicopter water drops.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, a shed fire that extended to a nearby tree and then to a field, propelled by the wind, was the genesis of the brush fire. In response to the emergency, the department evacuated several homes and a mobile home park nearby. However, the evacuation order was rescinded by 3:22 p.m. after firefighters successfully contained the blaze, as mentioned on AlertSanDiego.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department stated that the fire encompassed an approximate area of 2 acres, but the swift action of the crews halted the forward rate of spread. While no injuries have been reported at this time, the origin site of the fire did sustain considerable damage.
Residents are being reminded of the importance of being prepared for such emergencies. An AlertSan Diego message emphasized the utility of registering cellphones and email addresses with AlertSanDiego, the county's emergency mass notification system. Emergency responders use AlertSanDiego to disseminate evacuation orders and critical incidents during emergencies.
