The wave of seafood-chain struggles continues as Red Lobster moves to potentially shutter three of its San Antonio locations. This development comes as the latest addition to a series of closures linked to the company's financial turbulence which recently led to a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. According to court documents reported by KENS 5, the restaurants on the chopping block include:
5815 N. Loop 1604 West, 1381 S.W. Loop 410, and 17415 US 281 North. Previously, the Southeast Military Drive location was permanently closed in May and was coupled with the auctioning off of its contents. It's worth noting that, renegotiation of leases may rescue these current locations from their peril.
Red Lobster's plight is part of a more extensive effort to streamline operations in the hopes of finding a buyer to help the company emerge from its troubled waters. The news of potential San Antonio closures echoes similar concerns across Texas, with another location in Corpus Christi, a handful in North Texas, and one in Houston listed as controversies by the seafood chain. These potential closures, as per CNN documentation, could leave just two Red Lobster outlets serving the San Antonio area.
Despite the troubled tides, Red Lobster remains optimistic about its survival. "This restructuring is the best path forward for Red Lobtable", CEO Jonathan Tibus announced in a statement. The iconic Cheddar Bay Biscuits, for now, remain a menu mainstay. However, the company's future hinges on the outcome of its proposed restructuring strategy, as reported by the San Antonio Express-News.
