The running community of San Antonio is gearing up for the annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series, which has recently unveiled the courses for its 2024 marathon, half-marathon, 10K, and 5K events. According to details released and published by KSAT, the weekend of races is scheduled to begin with the 5K and 10K on Saturday, December 7, followed by the half-marathon and marathon on Sunday, December 8.
Changes to the course's start points were noted in comparison to past years. Notably, both the 5K and 10K events will commence at the junction of West Houston Street and North Santa Rosa Street, moving away from their previous location near Sunset Station. From the start, participants will journey east along Houston Street before turning north along IH-37, then taking a route northwest on Jones Avenue. "The 2024 courses have something for everyone to revel in as you walk or run through the Alamo City," the event organizers expressed in an email to subscribers.
The final stretch for both the 5K and 10K races will lead competitors to Travis Park, where the races will conclude. While the 5K route returns to the park shortly after heading northwest, the 10K extends further, passing north of downtown to San Antonio College before circling back to the finish line at Travis Park.
The half-marathon and marathon routes also present familiar territory, with athletes starting from City Hall. The courses will navigate through several of San Antonio's iconic scenes, including a stretch up to Broadway and Brackenridge Park. Participants in these longer distance events will also have the unique experience of running through Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. Whereas the half-marathon will circle back towards the heart of downtown, marathon runners will extend their stride to the East and Southeast Sides, eventually returning westward to complete their journey in front of the UTSA downtown campus, as indicated by previous reports from KSAT.
With the courses now laid out, participants can look forward to another memorable and scenic run through San Antonio's urban landscape later this year. The event continues to be a highlighted occasion for San Antonio's runners and sports enthusiasts alike, drawing individuals from all ends of the athletic spectrum – from competitive runners to those embracing a more leisurely pace.
