San Diegans have been left troubled following a pair of attempted kidnappings at Mission Valley Mall which occurred on Tuesday. According to the San Diego Police Department, the first incident involved a thwarted attempt by a male assailant to take a six-year-old girl from her mother's side as they walked near the shopping center. The child's screams are what caused the man to release her and take flight, as per information from Hoodline San Diego.
In response, the SDPD has since called upon the community to help quickly track down and bring the suspect to justice. The man, in his 40s, Hispanic, with collar-length black hair, was last spotted wearing a baby blue shirt and grey pants. Today, the SDPD secured a triumph in this unsettling case, arresting 42-year-old Rene Lujan from San Diego, as reported by the San Diego Police Department. Using advanced technology, the department’s Automated License Plate Reader system identified Lujan's vehicle, leading to his capture on State Route 94 near Home Ave.
The investigation further revealed that there was a second attempt to abduct a five-year-old girl under similar circumstances, also at Mission Valley Mall. Through diligent work, SDPD's Eastern Division Detectives connected Lujan to both incidents. The suspect has since been booked for both cases. This unsettling episode has emphasized the shared responsibility for the well-being and safety of the people in San Diego, a sentiment echoed by the SDPD's public appeal for assistance.
