The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office is actively seeking a suspect in an attempted sexual assault that occurred on the Joe Rodota Trail last Thursday evening. According to the official statement released by the department, a victim reported the incident after being attacked shortly before 8 pm while running along a stretch of the trail between Merced Avenue and Llano Road.
Responding deputies arrived within minutes to assist the victim, who had bravely managed to escape the assailant after a physical altercation. The attack, it seems, began when the suspect, described as a young Hispanic male between the ages of 18 and 20, approached from behind, grabbed the victim by the buttocks and forced her to the ground with the intent of committing sexual assault. The prompt response of law enforcement led to a quick assessment of the victim's account and a description of the suspect, who stands thin with long black hair. At the time of the assault, he was wearing a purple hooded sweatshirt, gray pants, and black shoes and was last seen heading west on the Joe Rodota Trail.
Authorities have classified the incident under 220 PC, assault to commit rape, and urge anyone with information to come forward. They are particularly interested in questioning the suspect, whose identity remains unknown.
