A South Carolina man has received a 13-year prison term for a string of high-stakes armed robberies, officials announced. Daquan Hampton, 27, of Clover, faced sentencing on Monday, with a subsequent three-year period of supervised release. The decision was confirmed by U.S. Attorney Dena J. King of the Western District of North Carolina, with acknowledgement from FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert M. DeWitt and CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings.

According to information provided by the U.S. Attorney's Office, the string of crimes began on June 8, 2022, when Hampton, accompanied by an unidentified accomplice, assaulted a Waffle House employee in Charlotte and robbed him. Employing a firearm, Hampton struck the employee and robbed the restaurant. Days later, the wave of crime continued at a Domino’s Pizza, where Hampton and his partner, again wielding guns, robbed the establishment and pistol-whipped an employee, leaving another injured from shrapnel when Hampton discharged rounds at a safe.

The crime spree culminated 18 hours following the Domino's incident, when two malefactors targeted a Papa John’s Pizza. They managed to coerce six individuals and secure $880 before fleeing the premises. Hampton's apprehension occurred on June 14, when officers found a firearm during a traffic stop, along with other incriminating items in his vehicle.

Hampton faced charges including Hobbs Act robbery and use of a firearm during a violent crime. He entered a guilty plea on August 1, 2023, and will be moved to a federal Bureau of Prisons facility upon designation. The significant investigative efforts by the FBI and CMPD were acknowledged by U.S. Attorney King, who also credited the involvement of Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alfredo De La Rosa and, Regina Pack in the prosecution of the case.
