Residents of St. Louis Park should brace for construction traffic and potential detours as the city embarks on its Pavement Management Update. According to a bulletin released June 10th, concrete work in the Phase 1 area is underway with sidewalk and driveway installations expected to continue through the week. Beginning Tuesday, June 11, contractors will be grading aggregate bases, a necessary foundation before the first layer of bituminous pavement can be laid down, scheduled to start on June 17.

As the neighborhood evolves with the hum of machinery, Phase 2 will also see significant activity. Starting June 11, utility contractors will focus on replacing water services which, according to the project update, should run into the subsequent week. Work on removing existing street pavement is set to begin on 41st Street from Quentin Avenue to Natchez Avenue and Huntington Avenue from Excelsior Blvd to 37th Street starting Wednesday, June 12.

Subsequent to the paving in Phase 1, contractors plan to initiate restoration efforts on the impacted yards. While this may come as a relief to residents looking upon the upheaval, those living in the path of Phase 2 will witness additional removal work continuing past June 17, transitioning into the installation of a temporary water system once the existing infrastructure is cleared.

A pertinent reminder was issued for homeowners regarding private improvements in the public right of way. Bituminous Roadways will be working in areas that might encompass personal property. "If you have private improvements such as underground sprinklers, electric wiring, perennial gardens, or invisible fences within 15 feet of curb, it is likely that they are in the public right of way," informed Aaron Wiesen, P.E., Project engineer for the City of St. Louis Park. Homeowners are accountable for relocating these to avoid damage during construction, with responsibilities extending to repair or replacement of affected items.
