Following a tragic incident in San Jose, a woman was fatally shot on North 4th Street and East St. John Street. This episode has culminated in the apprehension of suspect Myron Barrier, 61, in connection with the city’s 12th homicide of the year. As reported by SJPD's official news release, the incident unfolded on April 26 around 9:07 PM when the San Jose Police Department responded to a call for a welfare check and discovered an injured female victim with gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical efforts, she was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The subsequent investigation by the SJPD Homicide Unit led to the identification and issuance of a warrant for Barrier, who was arrested by the US Marshals Service in Greensboro, North Carolina, on May 21. Barrier was extradited to San Jose last Friday and is now held in Santa Clara County Jail, as stated in the update in SJPD's news release. "The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation," the department noted. The identity of the deceased will be handled with due procedure by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office, which is charged with notifying next of kin.
Earlier accounts by Hoodline detailed the department's immediate call to action, which included life-saving measures administered to the victim at the scene. Sergeant Jorge Garibay, part of the initial response, pointed out that law enforcement was desperate to assemble the corners of this grim puzzle, their efforts unceasing since the perpetrator initially evaded the scene.
Anyone with information is encouraged to reach out to Detective Sergeant Van Den Broeck and Detective Estantino, as confirmed by Hoodline. Submissions can be made via the P3TIPS mobile app or the tip line, and they may be eligible for a cash reward by the Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers Program should their tip guide them to an arrest. The San José Police Department extends gratitude to the US Marshals Service for their pivotal role in capturing suspect Myron Barrier.
