Seattle Police have apprehended an allegedly armed suspect in the Belltown area after a tense early morning incident. According to SPD Blotter, on May 29th at around 2:20 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call about a man who brandished firearms at the staff of a local business on Cedar Street. After a brief pursuit, which ended with the suspect crashing his scooter, police took the individual into custody.
In a statement obtained by SPD Blotter, authorities reported that the suspect, who had previously been barred from the establishment, pointed a gun at four individuals during the altercation. Responding to the scene, patrol officers quickly enveloped the area and spotted the masked suspect attempting to flee on a scooter.
The suspect, a 54-year-old man, suffered minor injuries due to the crash of his scooter. Seattle Fire Department personnel provided treatment, and he was later transported to Harborview Medical Center in a stable condition. Officers recovered two semi-automatic handguns, ammunition, and ballistic body armor from the suspect's possession, detailing the evidence in the aforementioned report.
Following his discharge from the medical center, the suspect was booked into King County Jail facing four counts of second-degree assault. Moving the case forward, detectives from the Homicide & Assault Unit have been assigned to spearhead the investigation. The outcome of this case could hinge on a multitude of factors, including the suspect's past encounters with local businesses and staff members who bore the brunt of his alleged menacing behavior.
