On the evening of June 8, a serious ATV accident occurred in Morrison County, resulting in injuries and the hospitalization of a passenger. According to the Morrison County Sheriff's Office, 21-year-old Dominick Herold of Pierz was behind the wheel of a side-by-side ATV when it rolled over after hitting a road approach along Highway 27, near 370th Avenue just north of Hillman.
Herold's passenger, 24-year-old Genelle Marquette of Maple Lake, suffered injuries in the incident she was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital by Life Link III, her condition remains unknown at this time, and the crash is still under investigation, but the involvement of alcohol is suspected by authorities. The crash drew a considerable response, including assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol, Pierz Police Department, and Pierz Fire Department, among others.
The incident, which took place somewhat late in the day around 5:37 pm, unveils another grim reminder of the potential dangers associated with ATV use, especially when alcohol may be involved. The Morrison County Sheriff's Office is actively looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash and the extent of Marquette's injuries is still being determined following her emergency airlift.
