Hillsborough County authorities have made an arrest in relation to a homicide that occurred in Tampa earlier this month, with 32-year-old Dayhan Ruenes Vinet now facing multiple charges including first-degree murder, according to the Tampa Bay Times. The arrest follows the discovery of a body found in a ditch on June 4, identified as Yalexander Jimenez Felipe, 47, who suffered multiple stab wounds.
Vinet, who was arrested on June 14, is also charged with robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon, dealing in stolen property, and filing false information on a pawnbroker form, as was stated in a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office news release, information has also been corroborated by their official release and further reporting by WTSP. Sheriff Chad Chronister was quoted saying, "I hope this arrest can help our victim's family begin their healing process," highlighting the department's commitment to justice.
The incident took place near East Chelsea Street and Racheal Falls Drive, where the victim, Jimenez Felipe, was pronounced dead at the scene with upper body trauma. The investigation, which is still ongoing, utilized WhatsApp messages to connect Vinet with the victim, details that emerged from a pretrial detention motion reported by Tampa Bay Times. Prosecutors believe that the victim had been lured to the scene under the pretext of meeting a girl, as per the messages exchanged between him and Vinet.
Surveillance footage and phone records played a significant role in uncovering the events leading to Jimenez Felipe's death, evidence which depicted Vinet's movements before and after the crime, the prosecutors' motion revealed Ruenes Vinet's car was seen canvassing the area before the murder, and his phone indicated activity at crucial times aligning with the crime's timeline, further detailed by WTSP. Additionally, a search of Vinet's vehicle unearthed blood in multiple locations, including the trunk and on a set of jumper cables, information that added further weight to the charges against him.
