Victor Hugo Chox Gonzalez, 38, identified as the top fugitive on Texas’ 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrants List, has been arrested, confirmed the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). Just over a week after Governor Greg Abbott kicked off the initiative, Chox Gonzalez was detained in Fort Worth by DPS Special Agents, with local news reporting the decision not to pay out a Crime Stoppers reward for his capture.
Wanted for the serious offenses of aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by sexual contact, Chox Gonzalez has a lengthy criminal record and was removed from the U.S. in 2016. In a statement obtained by the Texas Department of Public Safety, his history includes convictions for assault causing bodily injury to a family member and DWI with a child under 15. Coming from Mexico, Chox Gonzalez apparently had continued ties to Tarrant County.
The list, an initiative led by Governor Abbott and funded by the Governor’s Public Safety Office, is part of a collaborative effort to track down and apprehend illegal immigrants accused or convicted of serious crimes. Texas Crime Stoppers offers cash incentives for tips directly contributing to an arrest. Tips can be submitted through various secure channels, and informants are kept anonymous and provided with a tip number in place of a name, ensuring safety and privacy.
With the stated mission of enhancing public safety, DPS Special Agents join forces with federal and local agencies in the pursuit of these individuals. Highlighting the gravity of this task, the Texas DPS website also hosts the current Texas 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrants List, advising the public not to engage these potentially armed and dangerous fugitives but rather to pass information to the authorities.
