Two men were tragically found dead in a trailer in Channelview, Texas yesterday morning, officials say. The cause: lethal levels of carbon monoxide emitted from a generator they were using inside the trailer, which was being prepared for habitation. The grim discovery was made at a dwelling located on the 16000 block of John Street.
Responders from Channelview Emergency Medical Services determined the victims were deceased at the scene, according to a report by ABC13. The Harris County Sheriff's Office, which is leading the investigation, believes that one man dozed off while the other is presumed to have collapsed attempting to escape or possibly attend to his companion, their efforts undercut by an invisible, yet deadly assailant.
Hazmat teams were called to the scene to handle the dangerous environment created by the high levels of carbon monoxide, a colorless and odorless gas that can cause severe illness or death with prolonged exposure. The generator was not being used due to a power outage but rather to supply electricity for the trailer the men were preparing to live in, according to details shared by HCSO's X post.
