Seattle Parks and Recreation has kicked off construction on the Magnolia Community Center Stabilization Project, commencing a series of upgrades earmarked in the 2016 Community Center Strategic Plan. Kassel & Associates, Inc. will helm the renovation slated to overhaul the landmark's resilience and enhance its functionality, according to the Seattle Parks and Recreation.

Works initiated on June 10 poised to fortify the community center against the odds of time and nature. The revamp includes a gamut of structural and seismic enhancements: a new roof, better roof access, fall restraints, and the piercing of daylight through new windows in multipurpose rooms, and hallways. The front entry won't be left behind, it's set for a new floor, alongside a kitchen facelift and restroom remodel, electrical upgrades will be installed and ventilation will breathe new life into the storied walls.

Safety and openness are at the heart of this project - the center's accessibility will see an uplift with the introduction of a wheelchair lift bridging the lobby to the gym. The aim is to cast wider the nets of inclusion, ensuring that the vestibule of community life—the Magnolia Community Center—remains an inviting space for all in its embrace.

"We’re excited to begin construction on this center and to deliver a revitalized community space to Magnolia," Superintendent AP Diaz shared, as per the Seattle Parks and Recreation. Diaz highlights the essence of the facility, a bubbling hub and a shining beacon for the Magnolia community, projected to welcome a diverse demographic for "generations to come."
